Senegal, Ghana to Represent Africa in World Cup

On Tuesday, March 29, 5 African teams qualified for the 2022 Qatar World Cup. 

Cameroon, Senegal, Ghana, Morocco, and Tunisia won in their second leg matches to book spots in the much coveted global competition.

The five teams will represent the Africa continent in the November/December World Cup.

Nigeria, Egypt, and Algeria, are some of the big names that were upset from the competitions after registering losses in their second leg matches.

Cameroon 

Cameroon traveled to Algeria for their second leg qualifier match with a one-goal deficit.

The Indomitable Lions turned things around with a 2 - 1 win over the Desert Foxes qualifying for the World Cup with the away goal rule. 

Algeria suffered their first-ever defeat in Blida as Cameroon made it a record eighth World Cup qualification by an African nation. 

Senegal 

The African champions gave Egypt another penalty shoot-out defeat as they sealed their place at the World Cup 2022. 

Liverpool winger Sadio Mane scored the winning penalty helping his side clinch a 3-1 victory on penalties after his Reds teammate, Mohamed Salah, shot his penalty wide. 

Ghana  

A goal from Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey against Nigeria enabled Ghana to seal their place for Qatar 2022 World Cup. 

The Black Stars in their first leg at home the match ended in a 0 - 0 stalemate, however, a 1-1 draw against Nigeria was enough for them. 

The away goal rule helped Ghana advance to the World Cup finals for the first time since 2014. 

Morocco  

Morocco secured their ticket to Qatar with a convincing win against the newly inductees at the East African Community, Congo. 

The Leopards in their first leg were able to hold the North Africans to a 1-1 draw as they hoped to make their first appearance at the World Cup since 1974. 

The 4-1 win means that the  Atlas Lions will be making their sixth World Cup appearance. 

Tunisia 

Tunisia frustrated Nigeria with an impressive defensive display as they sought a spot in the 2022 World Cup in Qatar. 

The Carthage Eagles came into the match with an advantage after winning their first leg with a 1 - 0 scoreline, thanks to a Moussa Sissako's own goal. 

This is Tunisia's sixth time in the history of the country to qualify for the World Cup.
