Carlos Quieroz has announced his immediate departure from the Egyptian national team after failing to steer the Pharaohs to the upcoming 2022 Qatar FIFA World Cup.

The Portuguese coach parted ways with the Egyptian national team just six months after being hired to lead the Pharaohs.

Quieroz, during his tenure with Egypt, has suffered in the hands of Senegal registering two defeats; Afcon final and second leg World Cup qualifiers.

After the match ended, Quieroz took to his twitter account and announced his departure from the team with immediate effect.

“Dream is over! We tried our best but today was not enough. From the bottom of my heart, my gratitude to the Egypt Federation for this honour of coaching the National Team. To all my players and my staff, my recognition and humble thank you so much.

“It was my privilege to work and be helped by such dedicated and capable professionals and wonderful friends. Without you, nothing could be possible for me in my life. I am very much proud of you, Lads. My best wishes and enormous gratitude to all Egyptian fans,” the tweet read.

The Pharaohs were hoping to get revenge on the African champions, however, Sadio Mane's spot kick assured The Lions of Teranga a place at the World Cup.

Queiroz has had the privilege to coach one of England's greatest clubs Manchester United as an assistant to Sir Alex Ferguson.

The 69-year-old coach has also managed various national teams like Portugal, Colombia, Iran and the United Arab Emirates.

Before taking charge of Egypt the tactician only managed one African side, South Africa, between 2000 and 2002 before resigning.
