
On May 8, Kenyans will participate in the inaugural Nairobi City Marathon which will happen at the newly constructed Expressway.
The race which offers the largest prize money in Africa will see the winner bag Ksh 6.9 million ($60,000) with second and third place walking away with Ksh4 million ($35,000) and Ksh2.8 million ($25,000) respectively for both the men and women's races.
Finishing fourth will guarantee one Ksh1.4 million ($12,500) and a fifth finish gets one a prize money of Ksh1.15 million ($10,000).

The prize money is only viable for the 42km full marathon with different prize money for the top 20 in both men's and women’s races.
To register for the race one is required to visit nairobicitymarathon.com to select the different races one seeks to participate in.
Registration for Kenyans who want to take part in the Marathon is Ksh1,500, for the Half marathon, Ksh1,200, 10km race Ksh1,000 and 5km race-Ksh500.
There is also a different fee for international participants who will pay Ksh10,386 ($90) for the 42km and Ksh6,924 ($60) for the Half marathon.
On April 9, Cabinet Secretary for Sports Amina Mohammed was accompanied by PS Joe Okudo and Athletics Kenya President Lt Gen (Rtd) Jackson Tuwei were in Rotterdam, the Netherlands promoting the newly introduced Uhuru Classic.
The race will be an annual event and will start this year, with the marathon scheduled for Sunday, May 8.
The Nairobi City marathon will join other elite city races like Chicago, London, Boston and New York.
