Chelsea head coach, Thomas Tuchel, claims the match officials lacked the courage to make big decisions against Real Madrid in the Champions League second-leg final match.

Chelsea had traveled to Spain having lost 3-1 at Stamford Bridge in their first leg match and were hoping to reverse the result to advance to the semis.

Chelsea, who were ahead by three goals with ten minutes left, conceded a goal and the game was forced to an extra time that saw the Blues win by 3 -1 against the hosts.

The win, however, was inconsequential to Thomas Tuchel's side as the aggregate score was 5-4 with Madrid advancing to the semifinals.

“I’m disappointed that the referee had a good time with my colleague, I know Carlo is a gentleman and a nice guy but when I wanted to go and say thank you, I saw him smiling and laughing loudly with the opponent coach.

"I think this is the very worst time to do this, after 126 minutes with one team giving their heart and desire, fighting to the very last drop," Tuchel noted.

Tuchel added that he felt as if the interaction between the match official and Carlo Ancelotti was uncalled for.

The Chelsea manager also commented on the VAR ruling out Marcos Alonso's goal over handball claims.

“Not only today, it is like this for some time. If you play against Real Madrid, you can perhaps not expect everybody to have the courage. I felt little decisions went against us in the first leg and today.

“A referee has a certain style, things he allows and does not allow, so he should stay in charge and check it on his own, then he could explain it better.

“But this is just my opinion. "Maybe it is too much to ask for in matches like this against this opponent," Tuchel added.
