Harambee Stars has been pooled against Cameroon, Namibia, and Burundi in Group C of AFCON qualifiers scheduled for June.

The Kenyan side will be seeking to make a return to the African tournament after staying out since 2019.

Harambee Stars, however, risks not participating in the qualifiers if the current ban by FIFA is not lifted before the matches start.

"Reference to the suspension of Zimbabwe and Kenya by FIFA from all football activities, in case the suspension is not lifted two weeks before the first matchday of their qualifiers, both associations will be considered as losers and eliminated from the competition," read a letter from AFCON.

In March, the FIFA General Assembly ratified Kenya's suspension citing government interreference in the running of football affairs in the country.

Sports Cabinet Secretary, Amina Mohamed, earlier this month noted that before engaging FIFA in any talks, the Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Caretaker Committee will continue executing its mandate of cleaning the Kenyan football scene.

The Cabinet Secretary noted that before initiating any dialogue with the world football governing body, her Ministry will ensure that FKF complies with the Sports Act, the Kenyan Constitution and observes high standards.

CS Amina also cited lack of proper governance structures in most federations in the country.

“Three quarters of the federations in this country need to be fixed. Many of them don’t have governance structures and operate as briefcase parties then run to the government for monetary assistance,” Cs Amina noted earlier.
