Inaki Williams: Story of Footballer Who Broke Athletic Bilbao’s 117-Yr History

A footballer's career is always characterised by a multitude of hurdles such as suspension, injuries or even being selected left out of a squad. 

In very rare occasions will a footballer have a smooth career as most of them find themselves missing a match due to one reason or the other.

However, Spanish winger, Inaki Williams, has not missed a single La Liga match since debuting for Athletic Bilbao at the age of 21 years.

Inaki Williams, for the past six years, has featured and played in every La Liga game for Bilbao. 

Since April 20, 2016, when Bilbao lost 1-0 to Atletico Madrid, the Spanish player has never missed a La Liga match. 

The 27-year-old winger has the La Liga record for most consecutive appearances having played 224 matches in a row. 

Williams in his six years career, has been fortunate enough not to be sidelined through injury, suspension or non-selection 

Another outstanding record that the attacker holds is being the first black player to score in Athletic Bilbaos 117-year history when he netted a goal in February 2015. 

His younger brother, Neco Williams, also plays for Athletic Bilbao having made his debut in April 2021. The two brothers became the first siblings to play together in La Liga side since 1986. 

Their parents are from Africa, with the father being a Ghanaian and the Mother a Liberian. 

In 2020, Williams penned a new contract with the Spanish side to play until 2028.
