Tycoons Allowed to Buy Chelsea for Ksh619 Billion [LIST]

The British government approved the sale of Chelsea to a consortium led by American billionaire Todd Boehly on Wednesday, May 25.

The Ksh619 billion purchase deal was on the condition that besieged Chelsea owner - Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich - would not get the proceeds of the club's sale. 

Boehly is the face of the acquisition other members of the consortium are less known by the public. However, the individuals are not new names in the American and British venture capital and administrative circles.

The consortium in question is California-based Clearlake Capital with an estimated asset base of Ksh 5.8 trillion. Clearlake capital was founded by Puerto Rican tycoon Jose E Feliciano and former Texas Pacific Group TPG Capital executive Behdad Eghbali.

The two will have the majority stake at Chelsea but will entrust Boehly to run the financial affairs of the Premier League side and represent them on Chelsea's management board.

Hansjorg Wyss

Swiss' richest man had been approached to buy Chelsea before even Abramovich was. The 82-year-old announced in March that Chelsea was up for sale. He had a close business relationship with Boehly before launching the bid. Wyss attended last weekend's EPL 2021/22 season-finale against Watford.

Mark Walter 

Mark is Boehly's business associate and both have shares in Los Angeles Dodgers and Lakers. He also owns Guggenheim Partners and has interests in wildlife conservation. 

Jonathan Goldstein

The London real estate mogul will have a small stake in Chelsea and is a diehard Tottenham Spurs fan. Jonathan also doubles up as Cain International's Managing Director.

Danny Finkelstein

Former British premier David Cameron's advisor will assume a non-executive position on Chelsea's board. The Tory peer has been a huge Blues supporter and is a former sports columnist with Time magazine.

Barbara Charone

Charone is a former Rolling Stone journalist and music publicist. The London-based public relations guru will also be a non-executive director on the Chelsea board.

George Osborne 

The former Chancellor of the Exchequer of the United Kingdom has been spotted with Boehly and played an advisory role in the two months-long acquisition talks. His role in Chelsea has not yet been established.
