Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) President Nick Mwendwa can heave a sigh of relief after the  Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) withdrew the case against him.

Mwendwa was removed from office due to gross misconduct including graft allegations in November 2021.

In a decision made by Sports Cabinet Secretary Amina Mohamed, Mwendwa was kicked out together with his entire National Executive Committee.

CS Amina appointed a caretaker committee to run football affairs in the country, triggering the world football governing body FIFA to suspend Kenya from participating in its competitions.

FIFA gave Kenya a chance to reinstate the FKF team, citing government interference, which violated its rules.

The caretaker committee after their six months period handed CS Amina a report proposing that the FKF Constitution be amended to conform with the Kenyan Constitution and Sports Act among other issues.

Recently the sports Cabinet Secretary appointed a transition committee after the Caretaker’s tenure ended.

According to CS Amina, the transition Committee shall have different tasks among them ensuring that there is smooth running of the FKF, and coordinating and facilitating the validation of the draft Constitution of Football Kenya Federation among other duties.

It remains to be seen if DPP Noordin Haji's office will press new charges against Mwendwa, even as Kenya continues to feel the pinch of the FIFA ban.

Recently Kenya missed out on the chance to take part in the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier matches due to the ongoing ban from Fifa.
