Tokyo was selected after scoring the highest in the bid evaluation that focused on four areas: the potential for a powerful narrative, revenue-generating opportunities for World Athletics, the destination will enhance the international profile of the sport and an appropriate climate.
The Japanese city is also known to have the largest athletics stadiums.
After the announcement by the council JAAF President, Mitsugi Ogata appreciated the chance of being chosen as the host of the 2025 World Athletics Championships.
“We are immensely proud that World Athletics has demonstrated its confidence and trust in Japan to host the 2025 World Athletics Championships. Together with World Athletics as one team, we will capitalize on this opportunity to showcase the best possible global event for growing our sport to a higher level,” he stated.
Ogata highlighted that from way back Japan has shown the ability to host the world's top athletes and to inspire international audiences.
He also assured that fans will fill the Olympic Stadium in Tokyo, offering an unforgettable experience for the athletes.
