3,000m steeplechase World record holder, Beatrice Chepkoech, has pulled out of the World Athletics Championships due to an injury.

Chepkoech, who spoke to Nation Sports, revealed that she had traveled to Netherlands last week for treatment.

The record holder noted that her doctors established that she had a stress fracture and advised her against competing in any championships.

“I have just returned from the Netherlands where I had gone for treatment and my doctor asked me not to run because it would worsen the injury, especially when scaling the barriers.

“I would have loved to join the team in Oregon to defend my title but it is not possible and I want to wish my compatriots all the best in their race tomorrow.

“I would like to ask them to make sure they qualify for the final then they can hatch a plan on how to go for the title which is in Kenya,” Chepkoech stated.

Kenya will have three representatives at the 3000m steeplechase heat that is scheduled to take place on Saturday, July 16.

The three representatives are Jackline Chepkoech, Celliphine Chespol and Purity Kirui.

Chepkoech set the world record in the 3000m steeplechase by clocking 8:44.32 in 2018 in Monaco, effectively becoming the first woman to break the 8:50 and 8:45 barriers.
