Gor Mahia has unveiled a Northern Irish football manager, Jonathan McKinstry, as its new head coach.

The new Gor Mahia manager penned a two-year deal on Friday, July 29, that will see him stay at the club until 2024.

“We are pleased to announce Jonathan McKinstry as our new head coach. Coach Jonathan McKinstry penned a two-year deal,” Gor Mahia stated.

McKinstry is a former Rwanda and Uganda head coach. He has vast experience in coaching, having led Sierra Leone, Ghana, Bangladesh and Lithuania.

The new manager will take over from Andreas Spiers who left the club in July this year, six months after joining K’Ogalo.

Gor Mahia opted not to extend Spiers six-month contract after it expired.

Spiers joined Gor Mahia in February 2022 replacing Britain’s Max Harrison who was shown the door after a run of poor performances.

Under Spiers, Gor Mahia finished third behind defending champions, Tusker and Homeboyz who were in second place.

McKinstry will start his job immediately as K’Ogalo are already in their pre-season training ahead of the 2022/23 season.

The Northern Irish manager has been without a job since April 2021.

During his spell with Uganda Cranes, he won all the six games in the Cecafa Cup and lifted the regional trophy.

McKinstry becomes Gor Mahia's 11th coach since 2013, with K’Ogalo appointing 12 international tacticians in the last 12 years.
