Birmingham 2022: Samwel Imeta Impresses in Men's 100M Heats

Kenyan Short distance athlete, Samwel Imeta, hit the headlines after advancing to the 100m men's semifinals at the 2022 Birmingham Commonwealth Games. 

Imeta who was in heat nine finished second with a personal best time of 10:12. 

Kenya will thus have two athletes in the 100m semis after Africa's fastest man, Ferdinand Omanyala, clocked 10:07 in heat five. 

The Kenyan duo will take part in separate semifinals on Wednesday, August 3 and hope to compete against each other in the finals.

Imeta will be in the semifinal 3 where he will compete with top athletes Nethaneel Mitchel-Blake, Benjamin Azamatai from Ghana and Raymond Ekevwo from Nigeria.  

In semifinal 2, Omanyala will compete with the Kemar Bailey-Cole from Jamaica and Nigerian Favour Oghene Tejiri Ashe. 

In the women's race, Maximilla Emali finished third in her heat, booking a place in the semifinals. 

The only Kenyan 100 athlete who failed to advance past the heat levels was Millicent Ndoro who finished fifth in Heat 3.
