AFC Leopards star Cliff Nyakeya has blamed the government for derailing football activities in the country after the Sports Dispute Tribunal ruled that the 2021/2022 FKF Premier League season was invalid.

Nyakeya pinpointed the wrangles between the government and the Football Kenya Federation which affected other stakeholders in the football industry.

While nullifying the league in a ruling issued on August 23, the Sports Disputes Tribunal noted that the Transition Committee's decision to replace the Standing Committee's and judicial bodies was unconstitutional.

“A government should be creating employment opportunities for its citizens and not forcing the already existing ones to vanish!

“Each and every stakeholder in the Football industry (Ministry of Sports, the federation, clubs and players) must play their role in order for this beautiful sport to thrive in any country," part of his statement read.

The midfielder pointed out that the ruling all the resources each team used had gone to waste and it would be difficult to recover from the aftermath.

He also lamented that players and their families would struggle to survive considering how strenuous it was to convince corporates to invest in the league.

“Think about the resources teams used all through last season to win the league or maintain in the top league and others for promotion to a higher division. How will they recover the resources spent already?

“Teams are also preparing for the coming season of which as of now nobody knows when it will start. Which company will put its money in such an environment?" Nyakeya's statement read.

He asked both the federation and the ministry to look for an amicable solution to the crisis.
