FC Barcelona forward Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang was violently beaten and robbed by a gang of four criminals at his house in Spain, El Pais reported.

According to El Pais, police confirmed the incident stating that the former Arsenal and Borussia Dortmund star had been beaten by armed men.

"Barça player Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has suffered a violent robbery this morning at his home in Castelldefels (Barcelona).

 "At least four men have climbed into the garden, threatened him with firearms and iron bars, and beat him, according to police sources," the Spanish news outlet reported.

El Pais added that the robbers stole jewels and sped away in an Audi A3 which witnesses described to be white in colour.

"The thieves, in addition, have intimidated the victim and his wife with weapons until they have managed to open a safe for them, from which they have taken several jewels. The thieves, according to several witnesses, have fled in a white Audi A3,” continued the article.

Aubameyang moved to Barcelona in January this year after falling out with Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta. He agreed to cancel his lucrative contract with the North London club and joined the Catalans on a free transfer.

The Gabon international has previously played for several other top European clubs among them AC Milan, Lille, and Monaco.

The speedy attacker made his international debut for Gabon at the age of 19 and has represented the West African country in 4 African Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments so far.

In 2016, he became the first player, born outside the continent to bag the coveted African player of the year award. The 33-year-old was born in Laval, France.
