
Harambee Starlets forward, Sylvia Makungu, is the latest Kenyan to move to European football having signed for Austrian top-flight club FC Wacker Innsbruck.
Sylvia’s transfer was announced by Nairobi-based Acakoro Academy, with the player expected to join her new club in October.
The Harambee Starlets forward will become the first Kenyan woman to play for an Austrian club.

“ACAKORO proudly announces, that our player Sylvia Makungu gets the chance to join Austrian first tier side FC Wacker Innsbruck from September on,” part of the statement from the club read.
According to ACAKORO Head of Sports, Lukas Mott, the forward has been a part of the club's project where she has undergone both football and general education. He praised Sylvia for her versatility on the pitch.
“Sylvia is a talented offensive player that can play winger, striker and offensive midfield. She was one of the youngest players for Harambe Starlets at the age of 17.
“She spent her whole childhood in our project where she went through our football and education program. We are sure that she will make a good impression in Austria, “Lukas Mott noted.
The Austrian club, FC Wacker Innsbruck's men team has won the Austrian Bundesliga 10 times while their women’s team currently plays in the top-tier - Planet Pure Bundesliga.
Makungu expressed her joy in having the chance to play in a professional league in Europe.
“Of course, I am excited to get the chance to play in a professional league in Europe. Every day at ACAKORO I worked on my football talent and education. I will give my best to impress the club and league in Austria,” Sylvia stated
The Starlets forward, who made her senior international debut in 2020, is expected to fly out of the country to Austria in the coming week.
She was part of the team that traveled to Turkey where the Starlets had been invited for a women's tournament.
