African 100m record holder Ferdinand Omnayala said he was impressed by his performance under tough conditions at the Spitzen Leichtathletik where he finished just behind American Marvin Bracy in a photo finish.

Omanyala was competing on Tuesday, August 30, at the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver event for the first time since winning the Commonwealth Games title in Birmingham, United Kingdom.

The African champion was participating in the first of three European races on his calendar as he approaches the  conclusion of his season.

Bracy won the race with a time of 10.17 with Omanyala coming second with a time of 10.18 seconds.

Speaking to TeamKenya.co.ke the 100m athlete noted that despite the harsh weather conditions he felt he did his best.

“It was a great race in tough weather conditions. Rainy and headwind. Either way great competing against great athletes. Moving forward will be competing in Berlin Germany on September 4, 2022,” Omanyala stated.

Omanyala is expected to leave Switzerland for Germany on August 31, to continue preparations for ISTAF 2022.

The 26-year-old pleaded with Kenyans and well-wishers to help him raise Ksh1.5 million to support a team of junior athletes that he is mentoring.

The team that comprises boys and girls aged 8-17 years has been invited to the Netherlands for the Rotterdam Wedstrijden sprint event.

The team dubbed the Omanyala YISCA team will be the only African team at the Rotterdam Wedstrijden sprint event. They have two air tickets donated by Omanyala himself.
