Okutoyi Through to Semis in Canada Tournament

Angella Okutoyi alongside her Polish partner, Malwina Rowinska are through to the Semis of the Girls Doubles in the J1 Repentigny tournament in Canada. 

Okutoyi and her partner defeated the Slovakian duo of Irina Balus and Nikola Daubnerova with a score of 6-4, 6-4. 

In the singles, Okutoyi succumbed to a 7-6, 6-4 defeat against Slovakia’s Ela Nala Milic in the second round of the competition.

The 18-year-old tennis star is using the tournament in Canada as her final preparation before taking part in the US Open. 

“I don’t take it as a warm-up tournament. I really want to build my confidence in singles since lately I have not been doing really well.     

“So, in Canada, I will be trying to do really good... I hope for the best,” Okutoyi stated earlier.  

Okutoyi who dreams to be the African version of Serena Williams will be attending the US Open which will be her fourth junior grand slam event.  

In July 2022, she partnered with Dutch tennis star Rose Marie Nijkamp at the Wimbledon Opens girls’ tournament winning the doubles. 

Okutoyi is hopeful to fulfill one of her dreams of meeting her idol Serena Williams who will be retiring after the tournament.
