
On day two of the AFCB African Men’s and Women’s Boxing Championships in Mozambique, Kenya registered a mixed bag of results, with two wins and two losses.
On Tuesday, September 13, two boxers were eliminated, one reached the quarter-finals and the other reached the semi-finals.
Nick Okoth alias ‘the commander’ after receiving a walkover on September 12, showed dominance in his match, defeating Jean Jerry Ziggy from Mauritius in the men's 60kg fight.

With the win, Okoth became the first Kenyan to advance to the semis.
In the men's 57 kg bout, Kenyan Samuel Njau was able to defeat Guinea Bissau's Aly Badra to advance to the quarter-finals.
Christine Ongare was, however, eliminated from the tournament after a defeat from Zambian Margret Tembo in the women's 48kg bout.
Shaffi Bakari was also knocked out of the tournament by George Molwantwa from Botswana in the men's 54kg bout.
The boxers are all fighting for various medals in the championship with each medal with prize money.
Gold winners will take home Ksh1.2 million (10,000 USD), silver medalists Ksh602,100 (5,000 USD), with bronze winners walking home with Ksh301,050 (2,500 USD).
The boxing event that kicked off on September 9, in Maputo, Mozambique, will come to an end on September 18.
