Kenyan youngsters impressed at the 2022 Confederation of African Tennis Tournament that was held in Maputo, Mozambique.

The team that was made up of Nancy Kawira, Liya Gikunda and Seline Ahoya registered a third place-finish in the event, in the process winning a bronze medal for kenya.

Tennis Kenya congratulated the young girls for their heroic displays at the continental showdown.

"Team Kenya (12&under) clinches the bronze medal today. Kenya beat Ghana, Namibia, Mozambique and only lost to Tunisia and Zimbabwe. Well in girls" read a statement from the national governing body.

Kenya started their campaign with a 2-1 win over Ghana before dismantling Namibia 3-0.

In their other match, the teenage girls hammered the hosts Mozambique 3-0 in a one-sided encounter.

The Veronica Osogo-coached side were only beaten by title winners Tunisia and runners-up Zimbabwe. Tunisia and Zimbabwe overcame Kenya by 3-0 and 2-1 respectively.

To grace the competition which is recognized by the International Tennis Federation (FIA), Kenya had to triumph at the East African Zone tournament which was staged a few months ago.

Tennis Kenya has had a spectacular season with its competitors producing eye-catching displays at international competitions.

Fast-rising starlet Angella Okutoyi has been the main star, with the 18-year-old setting new records at Grand Slam tennis tournaments.

Focus now shifts to the upcoming W15 event which is slated for Nairobi from November 14 to November 27.

Okutoyi and her twin sister Roselida Asumwa are some of the talented players who have been confirmed for the tournament which has a prize money of $30,000 (approximately Ksh3.6 million).
