Leroy clocked 2:23.23 to settle for a second-place position ahead of Kenya’s McRae Kimathi who was navigated by Mwangi Kioni.
To win the African title, Leroy only needed to secure a top 8 position in Zambia while Patel had to win the event and pray that the former fails to finish in the top 8 positions.
