Vihiga Queens chief executive officer (CEO) Michael Senelwa has revealed that his team spent Ksh5 million in the 2021/2022 season which was declared null and void.

The Vihiga Queens CEO speaking at a local show on Monday night, November 14, pointed out that the club had utilised millions for training routines and players' upkeep.

Counting his losses, Senelwa indicated that the money excluded the salaries and allowances.

“In a season playing home and away if you are very efficient is about Ksh5 million. There is a lot that goes on in terms of logistics, you have to travel and feed your people for those fixtures, and if you are playing at home one is required to cater for ambulatory services and hire ground and security.

“You can imagine investing that much and I have not mentioned even allowances to staff and players. It is quite a demanding adventure investing in football and then it is washed down the drain,” Senelwa noted.

Senalewa also noted that the club suffered irreparable damage in terms of brand growth due to the nullification of the season.

The nullified FKF Kenya Women Premier League 2021/2022 saw Vihiga Queens go unbeaten to win what would have been their fourth title.

The Vihiga Queens boss supported the move to nullify the league, noting that in the new season the club will still be on top.

“Quite excited as a person on behalf of Kenyan football, players referees and coaches; every stakeholder in football. November 2021, sad news when the then Cabinet Secretary pronounced what she did.

"November 2022, is quite an exciting month when the government met all the minimum requirements set by FIFA so we can get back to international football,” Sanelwa added.

Recently Football Kenya Federation (FKF) CEO Barry Otieno noted that the federation was expecting the suspension to be lifted this week.

Vihiga Queens will begin the 2022/2023 FKFWPL campaign against Kangemi Ladies FC at the Mumias Complex.
