Angella Okutoyi’s twin sister, Roselida Asumwa, registered a vital win over Australian international Pratt Nessa at the ongoing W15 tournament staged at the Karen Country Club, Nairobi.

Asumwa dismantled Nessa, who is eight years older than her, in straight sets of (6-4, 6-2) to proceed to the next round of a tournament which is recognised by the International Tennis Federation (ITF).

The Kenyan tennis federation congratulated the fast-rising starlet for the bright start.

“A win for our girl Roselida Asumwa in her first match against Pratt Nessa of Australia. Asumwa won the match by two straight sets of 6-4,6-2. Congratulations Rossy,” read a statement from the federation.

In the next round, the 18-year-old  will battle it out with the winner between compatriot Katarina Karanja and Shermada Balu of India.

Her elder sibling Okutoyi, who is one of the main attractions at the global event, is expected to start her campaign on Wednesday, November 16.

The 2022 Wimbledon Open champion will play India’s Sharanya Shetty in the singles category.

Okutoyi, who recently got an education scholarship from the United States-based Auburn University, will also partner with India’s Bhasin Smirti in the doubles category.

The duo will play their first match against the pair of Savil Yuldasheva (Uzbekistan) and Caroline Romeo (France).

In other results, Kenya's Stacy Yego failed to advance to the next round after being thrashed (6-0,6-0) by Italian international Linda Salvin in less than an hour.

Sarah Adegoke of Nigeria overcame Poland's Natalia Kowalczyk in straight sets (6-1, 6-2), while Smirti overpowered Romanian Alexandra Iordache.
