Sadio Mane’s Message to Teranga Lions After World Cup Elimination

Injured Senegalese forward Sadio Mane on Monday, December 5, wrote a powerful message to the Lions of Teranga players after they were eliminated from the 2022 FIFA World Cup.

Mane, who was injured a few days before the start of the tournament urged the Senegalese players to be proud of themselves.

“Dear brothers, you have fallen with arms in hand. The people are very proud of your journey which has warmed the hearts of the supporters, defending the national flag with dignity.

“Good luck, the learning continues. We will go in search of other trophies, Inshallah,” part of the statement from Mane read.

Senegal were beaten 3-0 by a dominant English side in a match played at the Al Bayt Stadium.

Tottenham Hotspur forward Harry Kane, Jordan Henderson and talented winger Bukayo Saka were on target for the Gareth Southgate coached side. 

Senegal, who were missing some of their big guns including Idrrisa Gueye and Cheick Tiote fought a good fight but their efforts failed to bear any fruits.

To qualify for the knockout stage, the Lions of Teranga defeated the hosts Qatar and Ecuador. They were only beaten by the group leaders Netherlands. 

After edging out Senegal, England are set to square it out with defending champions France in the quarterfinals on Saturday, December 10, at 10pm East African Time.

The other teams which have already booked their slot in the next round include the Louis Van Gaal led Holland side and Argentina.
