
On Thursday, December 15, the national five-a-side field hockey team qualified for the 2024 World Cup slated for Muscat, Oman.
The Kenyan squad, nicknamed Chui, secured a slot at the global showpiece after thrashing Zambia 5-2 in a highly entertaining match staged in Ismailia, Egypt.
The National Olympic Committee of Kenya (NOCK) congratulated the team for its incredible achievement.

“Oman 2024 here we come. Congratulations Kenya Hockey Union on getting the ticket for the 5 aside world cup,” read a statement from NOCK.
Ten teams in both the men’s and women’s categories took part in the five-day qualifiers.
In a historic first, the team will get to grace a tournament of such magnitude. Other teams which will represent the continent at World Cup are Egypt and Nigeria.
According to the International Hockey Federation (FIH), 16 nations will compete in the world cup scheduled for January 2024.
"The FIH Hockey5s World Cup Oman 2024 is a 16-team tournament that will be the first-ever World Cup played in the Hockey5s format.
“Apart from the hosts Oman, there will be 3 teams each from Africa, Asia, Europe, Pan America, and Oceania.
"The African qualifiers will now present three more teams for the men’s World Cup, and the first three teams for the women’s World Cup," part of the statement from FIH read.
Belgium, Poland, and heavyweights Netherlands are some of the other nations that already booked a ticket for the event.
