The match between Okwiri and Kassim was to be a non-title fight but lack of payment led to its abrupt cancellation.

"I have never seen such a useless promoter in my life, on phone he sounds genuine but when l met him I sensed trouble, I am so disappointed having prepared for this fight for two months then it does not happen.
“Imagine the promoter did not even meet us at the airport. We paid for our way to the hotel. I'm so lucky I traveled with my sponsors otherwise we would have been stranded,” Okwiri stated.
Okwiri revealed that during the weigh-in they had agreed with the promoter that payment will happen before the fight however that failed to happen.
The Kenyan boxer noted that he has not seen the promoter since forcing his promoters and the commission to pay for his hotel accommodation.
“I hope the Kenyan promoters can take up the fight I take on Kassim Ouma in Nairobi," Okwiri noted.
According to Nunez Media Services Okwiri questioned why the promoter invited controversial politician Bobi Wine despite knowing the political implications.
Okwiri has left Uganda to return to Kenya waiting for the next way forward after the disappointment.
