
Shujaa finally returned to winning ways at the 2023 HSBC World Rugby 7s at the Hamilton leg held in New Zealand between Saturday, January 21, and Sunday, January 2022.
Kenya registered its highest finish this season after a morale-boasting win over Canada and Tonga.
The Damian McGrath charges beat Canada 21-7 in the ninth-place quarterfinal before bettering Tonga 33-19 in the semifinal.
In the match against Canada, Shujaa's tries were scored by Willy Ambaka, George Ooro, and Edmund Anya that were all converted by Anthony Omondi.
However, Samoa ended Shujaa’s hope of winning the ninth-place title after hammering them 26-5 in the final.

Alvin Otieno, who made his return to the Shujaa lineup for the first time this season at Hamilton 7s, scored Kenya’s only try of the game.
Kenya finished 10th in Hamilton, a massive improvement compared to their last three outings this season.
The team finished last in the Hong Kong leg and registered 13th and 11th place positions in Dubai and Cape Town 7s respectively.
In the main cup category, Kenya lost all its group matches. The team was beaten by Fiji, France, and Samoa.
Shujaa will be seeking to improve their performance at the upcoming Sydney 7s scheduled to take place on Friday, January 27 in Australia.
