Arsenal FC reached an agreement with Chelsea to sign their star midfielder Jorge Luiz Frello popularly known as Jorginho on the January transfer deadline day.

Jorginho, who has won a UEFA Champions League title with the Blues, was acquired at a cost of £12m (approximately Ksh1.8 billion).

According to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, the key factors that made the move possible was Mikel Arteta’s admiration of the player and the low transfer cost.

Arteta is believed to be Jorginho’s big fan particularly due to his passing ability.

Moreover, his acquisition allows Arsenal to look for long-term targets at the end of the season. Westham United’s talented midfielder Declan Rice is believed to be the club’s number-one target in the summer.

Jorginho's contract with Arsenal is expected to end in 2024, with an option for an extension.

The Athletic football correspondent David Ornstein revealed that Arsenal players and staff are over the moon after the completion of Jorginho’s transfer.

“Jorginho's transfer from Chelsea to Arsenal has gone down very well among the Arsenal squad and staff.

“Feeling is the midfielder brings technical ability, tactical understanding, and experience level ideal for the title bid,” he ended.

Arsenal went after Jorginho a day before the close of the transfer window after failing to land its number one target Moises Caicedo.

Caicedo, a 21-year-old Ecuadorian international, was viewed by Arsenal’s management as the right option to improve the Gunners’ midfield.

He was willing to move to the Emirates but Brighton & Hove Albion remained adamant that their player was not for sale.

Brighton, which is currently placed sixth in the Premier League standings, rejected several bids offered by Arsenal.

They first spurned a £60m (approximately Ksh9.2 billion) offer before turning down a £70 (approximately Ksh10.7 billion) bid from the league leaders.
