Marseille fans have been banned from Parc des Princes for the Paris Saint-Germain clash, as authorities extend a five-year ban on away fans.

The French authorities issued a 24-hour travel ban to the fans less than 36 hours to the matchday.

“The individual or collective movement, by any means, of any person claiming the status of Olympique de Marseille or behaving as such, is prohibited between the municipalities of the department of Bouches-du-Rhone and the municipalities of the region of Ile-de-France,” a statement from the French authorities read.

The authorities decided to ban the fans due to the hostility between both sets of supporters.

The last time both sets of fans attended a match together was on February 28, 2018, when eight police officers were injured in a commotion.

PSG are the league leader and will be playing Marseille in a Ligue 1 match on Sunday, April 17.

The French League this season has been marked by fan violence during different matches including Lyon, Nice, Marseille, Lens, Brest and Angers.

Marseille midfielder, Dimitri Payet, is one of the most targeted players by rival fans, having been hit several time with empty water bottles.

Other fans who have been affected are the Lens supporters as their team head to face arch-rivals Lille on Saturday, April 16.
