Former Gor Mahia defender Wellington Ochieng's lawyer reportedly tried to auction the club’s bus on August 20, 2022 over unpaid allowances and salary arrears.

According to reports, the record Kenya Premier League (KPL) champions owe Ochieng over a million Kenyan shillings.

Victor Otieno, one of K'Ogalo's security personnel disclosed that the auctioneers visited the club’s training ground in Camp Toyoyo, Jericho with the aim of auctioning the bus.

“The auctioneer came to the team's training ground at Camp Toyoyo, but was repelled,” stated Otieno.

Ochieng on the other hand revealed that he has tried reaching an agreement with the club but his efforts have been unsuccessful so far.

“I tried reaching an agreement with the club, but nothing materialized so I left everything to my lawyer,” he stated.

Ochieng who has previously played for Muhoroni Youth joined Tusker in 2020 and was instrumental in the Ruaraka-based side’s 2021/2022 KPL triumph.

Gor Mahia is facing financial challenges ahead of the 2022/2023 season which kicks off in a few weeks time.

The club alongside arch-rivals AFC Leopards are currently serving a transfer ban which ends in January 2023. The world governing football body FIFA, banned them for failing to pay accumulative salaries to their former stars.

The two clubs have been forced to rely on their youth teams to strengthen their squads.

Earlier this month, Gor Mahia suspended ten first team players for failing to attend training without permission.

Some of the players who were suspended include Benson Omalla, George Odhiambo, Ernest Wendo and Austin Odhiambo.
