The two defeated the Canadian duo of Eliana Kook and Anna-Raphaelle Serghi winning by a score of 6-4 and 6-2.

Okutoyi will also play in the singles match against Ela Nala Milic of Slovakia where she will be fighting for a quarter-finals place.

Before flying out to Canada, she noted that she would use the tournament to improve her singles performance as she has been better in the doubles.

“I don’t take it as a warm-up tournament. I really want to build my confidence in singles since lately I have not been doing really well.

“So, in Canada, I will be trying to do really good... I hope for the best,” Okutoyi stated earlier.

The 18-year-old is currently preparing to play at her fourth junior grand slam event this year at the US Open. Okutoyi wants to be Africa’s version of Serena Williams, the 23-time grand slam champion.

In July 2022, the 18-year-old together with her Dutch partner Rose Marie Nijkamp took the tittle at the Wimbledon Open girls' doubles after beating the Canadian pair of Kayla Cross and Victoria Mboko.

Okutoyi who is yet to start her US Open matches noted in a past interview that her dream was meeting with Serena who will be retiring after the tournament.

“For sure I am really hoping to meet Serena Williams since I think she would be retiring after the US Open. So hopefully I get a picture with her or even have a small conversation with her.

“I mean this will really boost me. Hearing from a legeng or even having a picture with a legend is what everyone wants.

“It will be in your books or somewhere, that you met your role model,” Okutoyi stated earlier.
